From plain brown to fab black!

Areas of the bed frame had varnish that was getting gummy.
I took rubbing alcohol to those areas, until the varnish was off.
Primed right over the existing varnish with Valspar brand spray paint primer.
Sprayed black spray paint over entire surface except
the panels where the fabric would cover.
The garage made a good place to paint.
It was too cold and rainy outside. I left heat lamps on.
Covered the painted edges with newspaper.
Spray mount worked great to adhere the fabric panels.
Smoothed the fabric on. Fabric from IKEA.
Finished off the edges with black 1/4 inch cording.
Used Fabri-Tac adhesive found at craft/fabric store.

Ta-da!
